24 March 2008 - THE BEST SHOW OF THE YEAR

Holy crap guys! NOAC was amazing! Everyone put amazing amounts of work into this show, and that is what made it the show it was. We had three great guest groups. The Elmira Chiclettes came down to sing with us again this year, RIT's very own Encore sang with us, and we had RIT's brand new improv group Brainwreck entertain. The crowd was phyched the entire show, and I can't see how it could have gone better.

We also rocked out with 5 never before heard songs, including Kiss from a Rose, Trashing the Camp, Banana Man, Think About it, and our movie rendition of Let's All Go to the Lobby. We also had two new-to-Rochester songs, never performed at home, Wake Up, and School of Rock! We also brought back classics like Life is a Highway, Kiss the Girl, Is She Really Going Out with Him, and Be My Escape.

The theme this year was Let's Go to the Movies, and we recorded four BCS style trailers for the movies. Clips from 300: King Leonidas' Day Off, I Am Lame, BraveHeart: For A Cappella, and How to Lose a Girl in 10 Seconds were shown, as well as messages from our sponsors. As soon as we get them encoded for web, you'll be able to watch them on our website!

We'll also be posting pictures and anything else NOAC related we can get our hands on! Thanks for your support of our show, and make sure you get a seat next year!Wrapup

10 NOVEMBER 2006 - NUDITY!!!

Well, not really, but it caught your attention, didn't it? That was the theme at the University of Rochester After Hours latest concert, Naked Co-ed A Cappella. As the only performing guest group, the zany characters of your favorite Brick City a cappella group performed a full set of six songs, including Candleburn, Kiss the Girl, and their popular rendition of Fat Bottomed Girls. Nothing brightens up the audience more than a successful performance from your favorite guys in Hawaiian. The guys would like to send a congratulatory word out to the After Hours for an awesome, and interesting, concert and hope that there will be many more opportunities to perform together in the future.Wrapup

It was a fantastic show, and the guys want to the the RPI Partial Credit for inviting them for such an amazing event!Wrapup

15 SEPTEMBER 2006 - BCS TAKES FOUR!

The long awaited moment is finally here. Your heart pounds, your hands grow wet and clammy, and your forehead seems to be dripping with perspiration. Perhaps it is time for an absorbent towel. Or, perhaps, is the suspense and anticipation of the announcement too much for you? Do you have what it takes to stomach the results?

Well, we hope you've brought your appetite, because here comes another helping of tropical A Cappella goodness!

After a grueling week of auditions, informational meetings, and seemingly endless games of Smash Brothers, Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero, the new members have been selected and welcomed into the BCS fold properly. We're proud to present our 4 new members!

Helping to root the anchor of BCS's sound is Carl Staiger, a thundering bass capable of rocking out on a regular basis. Also snagged was Sam Winkler, a super-talented baritone and also a proponent of rocking out. Brian Cole and Mike Thering were both excellent catches, as they round out the crisp, ultra clear upper frequencies of BCS with a smile. We are extremely excited to be working with these four fine musicians to bring you the ridiculous antics and silky-smooth sound you've come to love. Look for our new recruits on campus and concerts starting this fall and help us congratulate them on a job well done! Wrapup

7 SEPTEMBER 2006 - RUSH WEEK BEGINS!

You’ve seen the posters, read the flyers, visited the websites, and heard BCS storm the dorms! Rush week finally starts today with the first round of auditions! During this next week, you’ll get to know the a cappella groups through info meetings and some exciting nights of activities, food, and of course, fun! If you can’t make a meeting or event, don’t worry! These events are informal and not required to be accepted into a group.

We look forward to meeting you at auditions and seeing you at our events!

4 SEPTEMBER 2006 - BCS WANTS YOU!

You've managed to get yourself moved in, met your new roommate, survived the exhausting orientation tours, found your classrooms and met your teachers, but you feel that something is still missing--trying out for an a cappella group is a great way to fill that void in your life!

The Brick City Singers had 7 phenomenal seniors graduate last year, bringing our number to 8. BCS will be looking for new members this year during the audition process. We look forward to meeting new people, seeing new faces and hearing new voices, but most of all, we look forward to rocking out!

A cappella auditions are to begin on Thursday, Sept. 7th at 9pm (please arrive at 7pm for RIT Singers rehearsal) in the music room in the basement of the Student Alumni Union. You don't need a prepared piece of music for auditions, so just bring yourself and your voice! The last round of auditions is set to begin on Thursday, Sept 14th same place, same time.

Following the first audition night, a cappella rush week will give everyone a chance to get to know the current members of BCS and the other a cappella groups. Through a variety of informational meetings and activity nights, you will have a better sense of what each group is about. We hope that you decide to step up and audition this fall, but don't forget to bring your "A" game! We'll see you at auditions! Wrapup

30 AUGUST 2006 - A NEW YEAR!

The Brick City Singers are ready to rock out for another exciting and bold new year! The guys arrived early this week in order to prepare for freshmen convocation. After a quick rehearsal they were ready to welcome the new freshmen with the RIT alma mater. BCS helped show school spirit during convocation as members cheered for their own individual colleges.

The Brick City Singers welcome all of the incoming freshmen and eagerly await A Cappella Rush 2006. Keep your eyes peeled for flyers and you ears open for more information on rush week--but in the mean time, mark your calendar for club day on September 3rd. The guys will be sporting Hawaiian shirts behind Gracies from 2-6PM and will gladly explain what the Brick City Singers are all about.

Check our schedule for additional information on dates and times. We hope to hear from you!Wrapup

18 JUNE 2006 - 2005-2006 WRAP-UP !

It has been an amazing year for the Brick City Singers.  The recruitment of new members, competing in the ICCAs, two road trips to Elmira, New York and Rutgers, New Jersey, an absolutely killer Night of A Cappella, and three recording sessions for the newest Brick City Singers' CD, not to mention the various local concerts held in good old Rochester, have not tired these guys out one bit.  Already they are planning the events for the 2006-07 year.

After a minor set-back, the plans to release the next CD are set for sometime next year.  This one will include old favorites such as Dr. Worm and Clocks as well as the new hits Candleburn, Helena, and Kiss the Girl.  Keep in touch for news in the future!

Congratulations to all of the graduating seniors!  You have brought great things and have paved the road for many more in the years to come.  Good luck with everything that is awaiting you in the future.

As for all you fans, be prepared for another rockin' year!  There will be new faces, new music, and of course, plenty of good ol' a cappella excitement in store for you in the fall.  Have a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you again!Wrapup

4 APRIL 2006 - NOAC6 THIS WEEKEND!

Here's the latest update and reminder about the big show coming up this weekend (on Saturday, April 8th at 8pm) in Ingle Auditorium! Doors open at 7:30 and tickets are on sale now from any BCS member or at the candy counter for $3 (tickets are $5 at the door.)

It's also an update on the guest groups you'll be seeing this weekend. Unfortunately, the Chordials had some last minute complications and were unable to make it to the show. Fortunately, the fantastic Elmira Chiclettes were thrilled at the chance to step up and fill the position and they will be at the show!

The singers have also recently announced that the theme of this year's show is The Twilight Zone. Get ready to see some of the stranger possibilities in a cappella! BCS t-shirts will be on sale at the show in limited supply. They will be $8 each.

BCS is gearing up for a fantastic show Saturday, and we can't wait to see you all there!

21 MARCH 2006 - 6TH ANNUAL NIGHT OF A CAPPELLA

That's right boys and girls, it's that time of year again. What time you ask? Why, time for the Brick City Singers' annual Night of A Cappella, that's what time!

BCS is proud to announce the fantastic lineup of guest groups for this year's show, and believe me, this is quite a lineup! The sixth annual Night of A Cappella will feature (in no particular order) Rutgers' Deep Treble, The Syracuse Mandarins, and The Cornell Chordials! All three of these groups will undoubtedly be great additions to the show, making for one totally rockin' night.

The show will take place on Saturday, April 8th at 8pm in Ingle Auditorium. Doors will open at 7:30, tickets are $3 presale or $5 at the door and are available from any BCS member or the candy counter. Be sure to mark your calendars now and save the date, because this is one show you do not want to miss!

18 MARCH 2006 - ELMIRA A CAPELLA WEEKEND

They barely had time to rest before another exciting weekend called for the Brick City Singers to warm up their voices, pack their bags, and head off to Elmira College for an exciting concert with the lovely Elmira Chiclettes.

The boys jumped right into their set with a rockin’ rendition of Ocean Avenue, soloed by Dave and Nick, getting the audience grooving right away. Next up were Clocks and Helena. The guys then changed the pace a bit with the premiere of their newest song, Candleburn, with soloist R.J. Peña, and ended with a bang as Damien Cordero rocked the house on Somebody Told Me.

Singing (and traveling) right along side the guys was another of RIT’s groups, the lovely ladies of Encore. These gals filled the auditorium with the melodious harmonies of some of their classics such as Sweet Dreams and some of their newer material including the BCS favorite, Twenty-four. Also adding to the evening's performance were Elmira’s male a cappella group, A1 and the Sauce, and SUNY Albany's Serendipity.

Last, but certainly not least, the wonderfully talented (and theatrical) ladies of the Elmira Chiclettes wowed the audience with some clever skits and entertaining musical numbers, including crowd favorite, The Walk of Shame. The concert was certainly a great one and a whole lot of fun, and the Brick City Singers would like to thank the Chiclettes for a great opportunity and memorable experience!

3 MARCH 2006 - RUTGERS ROAD TRIP

The Brick City Singers kicked off their spring break this year with a trip to Rutgers to sing with the phenomenal Rutgers Deep Treble! Returning from a road trip hiatus, the boys that you know and love packed up their gear, their voices, and their dead sexy selves and made the long trek to Jersey.

It was a great venue with a packed house. BCS opened the show and set a strong tone for the rest of the night. Tom Guzewich started off the BCS set with his smooth tones on Clocks. The set was rounded out by Dave’s great rendition of Helena which got the crowd movin', followed by that old Sesame Street favorite, I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon. Finally the boys ended their set with Somebody Told Me soloed by Damien.

Joining the lineup along with BCS was the smooth all men’s group from JHU, the AllNighters. Combining fantastic arrangements and a great blend of voices, the Allnighters rocked the house with a few favorites such as Mr. Brightside and Jealousy.

Last, but certainly not least, the fantastic Deep Treble co-ed group stormed the Stage with a great set including great arrangements of Let Go and Always be my Baby. All in all it was a fantastic show and BCS was all too proud to be part of such a production. Special thanks to Rutgers Deep Treble and the JHU AllNighters.

18 FEBRUARY 2006 - ICCA WRAP UP

Despite a bit of inclement weather, a near brush with death for RJ, and an ailment that landed poor Nick in the hospital, the Brick City Singers pressed on to perform their sub-12 minute set this evening at the ICCA Quarterfinal hosted by the Midnight Ramblers at the University of Rochester!

Quite a few BCS fans made it out to the show to watch the talented hosts and awesome competitors perform on the stage in U of R's Strong Auditorium. The BCS boys drew the second position in the competition and took the stage directly after the first slot competitors, Rochester's own Vocal Point. Their set opened up with this year's first new arrangement, Helena by My Chemical Romance. The group followed that with Clocks by Coldplay and finished off the set with a lively performance of Somebody Told Me by the Killers.

The group is thrilled with how well the performance went and would like to congratulate the other performers on a fantastic show, with a particular note to the winners of the competition, Syracuse University's Orange Appeal. As always, thanks to all the fans who made it out as well!

15 OCTOBER 2005 - WE'RE GOING TO THE ICCAS!

The Brick City Singers are very excited to announce that they have just been selected as one of the competitors in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella MidAtlantic Quarterfinal to be held at the University of Rochester on February 18th!

As many of you know from last year, these events always feature a top-notch roundup of the best A Cappella groups in the region. It is also very fortunate that the performance is going to be so close to campus this year, because that means it should be fairly easy for all of the RIT-based fans to make the short trip over for this fantastic show (two years ago when we competed near Boston we still had about a dozen die-hards make the trip!)

Along with the talented competitors that you'll see at the show, the U of R Midnight Ramblers will likely put on a few numbers as the host of the event (last year they were the 1st place group at the ICCA Quarterfinal hosted by BCS at RIT!)

The group is psyched to be getting back in to the competition side of the ICCAs after taking last year off to host the event, and we hope to see all of you there - so mark your calendars now!

4 OCTOBER 2005 - BRICK CITY WEEKEND

Ok, ok, so its new name is officially "Brick City Homecoming" but old habits die hard. Either way, they got the two most important words right. And no Brick City whatever would be complete without at least a few performances by the Brick City Singers! This weekend be on the lookout for BCS performing at the following events:

Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1:30pm - Ingle Auditorium - RITSMA's annual Kaleidoscope Concert
Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:00pm - Outside the Field House - Singing to the line before Jon Stewart
Sunday, Oct. 9 at 11:30am - Genesee Valley Park - Stonehurst Invitational Regatta

There are plenty of chances to catch a performance, so be sure to include us in your plans for the weekend!

26 SEPTEMBER 2005 - KATRINA BENEFIT SHOW

Next Saturday, October 1st, The 4 RIT A Cappella groups and the University of Rochester After Hours will be having a Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert in Ingle Auditorium starting at 7:00 pm. There is a suggested donation of $5 for everyone attending, with all of the profits of the show going to organizations to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This is sure to be a fantastic show, and it’s for a great cause, so make sure not to miss it!

15 SEPTEMBER 2005 - WE'VE GROWN!

Continuing with the usual BCS tradition, A Cappella Rush 2005 was a BLAST! With the unfortunate loss of a few good men from last year, it was imperative that the group find just the right guys for the job. After many hours of getting to know the hopeful recruits, filling them with information about the Singers, and a few rounds of Duck Hunt, the decisions were made.

And with that, the Brick City Singers are proud to announce the newest additions to the BCS lineup! On Tenor, hailing from Helen Fish Hall and weighing in at a total combined range of several octaves, we have RJ Peña and Trevor Mumaugh! Next, your dynamic-duo of beautiful Baritone sounds, it’s Joe Pinzone and Max Lewin! And last but not least, rounding out the bottom, it’s your heavyweight Bass, Jon Husar!

All of us here in BCS are thrilled to be adding such amazing talent to the group this year. Having so much awesomeness in one place can only lead to GREAT things! This year promises some fantastic music, tons of fun, and more crazy antics than you can shake a stick at!

Fans, be on the look out for your new Hawaiian clad heroes, and newbies, welcome to the group! All of us here at BCS salute you!

23 APRIL 2005 - HOLLYWOOD PIPES

For their second road trip of the spring, the BCS boys accepted an offer to go perform with their old pals the RPI Rusty Pipes at their spring show, entitled "Hollywood Pipes."

This performance marked the 3rd time in the last two years that the boys got to sing with the fun-loving RPI group. Taking place on the 23rd of April, this show also marked two weekends in a row of travel for BCS. This time, a couple of the group's alumni (Campbell and Nate) made it to the show to cheer the Singers on and show their support.

The Pipes started off the night with a quick opening song, followed by the Albany Earthtones. The Earthtones delivered up a high-energy and entertaining performance, cracking out a Beatles tune during their set. The Brick City Singers followed the Earthtones with the same rocking set that they had delivered at JHU. It was met with a round of lively applause from the excited crowd.

By the time the Pipes made it back to their own stage, the crowd was more than ready for their exciting music and antics. They presented several really great pieces including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something, their variation on Raffi's “Banana Phone”, and “The Reason” by Hoobastank. Once again, it was made clear why the Singers continue to find themselves singing with this great group of people!

The trip was a great time for all involved, thanks again to the Rusty Pipes and to their kickin' crowd!
