In-service Education

  1. The science/math teachers in my school are required to attend professional development workshops/activities in order to be re-certified by the state. How can I use the information on the COMETS website in working toward that goal?

We especially recommend that you look at the series of workshops on active learning, writing-to-learn, reading-to-learn, and thinking skills.

    • These workshops can be led by a professional development coordinator, principal, supervising teacher, or other leader in your school.
    • It is not necessary that this person have a strong background in science and math, but it would be helpful if the workshop leader collaborated with an experienced science/math teacher
    • the workshops are designed to include pre-readings, activities, and critical points to emphasize in order to help teachers remain current
