Rochester Institute of Technology is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). This accreditation body requires institutions to meet standards related to best practices in higher education. These standards are known as the Characteristics of Excellence. Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation replaces all the earlier editions of Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education: Requirements of Affiliation and Standards for Accreditation.
To remain accredited, institutions undergo a Self-Study every 10 years, and submit a Periodic Review Report (PRR) at the 5 year point between self-studies. Rochester Institute of Technology submitted the most recent Self-Study in 2007 and its Periodic Review Report in June 2012. RIT's next site visit is in 2017.
