Message from the Provost
RIT's faculty members are both teachers and scholars; this becomes clear when evaluating the large body of artistic accomplishments, articles published and research completed in 2011. These endeavors enrich the student-teacher relationship, showcase RIT's areas of excellence and address real-world challenges. In conferences, professional presentations, exhibits or scholarly publications, our teacher/ scholars are having a meaningful impact on human welfare that goes beyond the walls of RIT.
Our cumulative body of scholarship achievements reflects the complex challenges facing our world today. Our teachers understand that in order to solve the most pressing issues facing our society, our brightest minds must use a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach. Our teacher/scholar model promotes experiential learning, setting the foundation for a lifetime of discovery, creation and innovation for both our students and our faculty.
RIT is widely recognized as a leader in the fields of deaf education, design, imaging science and sustainable manufacturing to name only a few. It is the work of the faculty that consistently upholds this reputation. Through the continued pursuit of excellence in scholarship, our faculty enrich and deepen our knowledge of these areas and the strength of all our academic programs. I am proud to present this report highlighting some of our noteworthy faculty scholarship achievements during 2011.
