Foundations

Currently, students take one 3-credit hour foundations course, First Year Writing.  This course provides a focus on writing and communication skills, which prepares students for future coursework and career expectations.  This course, which is typically taken in the first year, plays an essential role in students' transition from secondary to post-secondary education. What distinguishes First Year Writing from other Writing Intensive courses is that students:

  • Learn about the social and intellectual aspects of writing in the university.
  • Develop critical reading, writing, research and reflection practices required for academic success. View information on the Institute Writing Committee and the University Writing Program websites.
