Honors Program Benefits

Early Registration

All honors students register for classes one day earlier than other students in their year-level. This allows students to take honors courses and still be able to fit other required courses into their schedule.

Free Course Overloads

All honors students can take up to 22 credit hours a quarter without additional cost.

Grants

All honors students have the opportunity to apply for competitive honors grants available for study abroad, disciplinary research, interdisciplinary projects and thesis costs.

Honors Advising

The Honors Office and each college have experienced staff and faculty members dedicated to serving as honors advisors and advocates. They work with students one-on-one, advising them as they develop plans for courses and schedules as well as professional and experiential learning opportunities.

Housing

Many of the problems associated with freshmen year are alleviated by the culture of informal mentorship inside honors housing. Living in the honors dorm is so popular that second and third year honors students often choose to remain in the honors residence hall.

Honors Council

Student leadership is crucial to an effective Honors Program. The Honors Council is at the forefront of all honors program policy changes. Students are elected from all year levels and disciplines and represent various special interest constituencies.

Honors Committees

Honors students have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and innovative projects through specialized committees. These projects have not only changed the face of the Honors Program and RIT, but have also launched students into important leadership and career positions.

Study Abroad

Honors students are encouraged to pursue study abroad to add an international perspective to their education. Working with the director of the Honors Program for guidance on how to include study abroad in their academic career, honors students have gone to countries such as Australia, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, and many more. Travel Grants are available to all honors students to offset some of the cost associated with airfare and travel.

Research and Experiential Learning

The Honors Program offers funded opportunities to work with faculty on applied and interdisciplinary research projects at the undergraduate level.
