About GEAR UP

GEAR UP is a federal grant program designed to prepare more low income students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

RIT GEAR UP is one of 11 New York participants in a six-year cooperative college preparatory project funded through NY State HESC. In 2005, RIT began following students from 7th grade, providing various services and activities to better prepare them for post-secondary education. In the 2007 - 2008 school year, students will begin their 9th grade year.

Our Mission

To provide and support the Class of 2011 at Franklin Education Campus and East High School in Rochester, New York with the academic, financial, and social readiness in preparation for post-secondary education.

Our Goals

  1. Increase the number of students who meet the new regents high school graduation requirements.
  2. Provide students with an understanding of the path towards a college education.
  3. Provide assistance and resources for students that will empower them to set and meet goals for post-secondary education.
  4. Assist students and their parents with resources necessary for students to apply, attend, and complete a post-secondary education.
