Monday, November 20, 2017

SOIS alum, Remy (Jeremy) DeCausemaker, BS ’08, MS ’13, visited with students and staff October 5 to discuss his RIT individualized degree and his varied professional experiences. Remy is a self-proclaimed "hackademic," meaning he studies communities of software developers and contributors to help them work together to use their powers for good. He has helped to see through a number of firsts for the free/open source software (FOSS) movement, including the first academic minor in free/open source software and free culture at RIT. He served as the first community action & impact lead for the Fedora Linux distribution and the first open source community manager for a US presidential campaign or national political party. Remy is currently the open source manager at Twitter, which depends on, contributes to, and supports many open source projects, communities, and organizations.
