All academic programs are required to develop an outcomes assessment plan.
Purpose
The purpose of the program outcomes assessment plan is to provide faculty with a clear understanding of how their program is assessed (e.g. who is going to do what, when, how) with the ultimate goal to foster student learning.
For further resources on academic program planning, review, assessment & evaluation management go to:
http://www.rit.edu/academicprogrammgmnt. This form is submitted with all new program proposals.
New programs are required to complete an outcomes assessment plan.
Developing a Program Level Outcomes Assessment Plan
A program assessment plan should be developed collaboratively with the faculty who teach in the program. Huba and Freed (2000) established the following key questions to consider when establishing an assessment plan.
- Does the program have clear, explicitly stated goals that can guide the assessment of the program?
- What opportunities do we provide for students so that they can achieve our intended outcomes?
- What forms do our assessments take?
Program Level Outcomes Assessment Plans Support Academic Program Review
The assessment of student learning is a component of academic review, not a separate initiative. Section III, Program Quality and Accomplishments is a developing section of the RIT Academic Program Review framework. This section asks program faculty to provide an overview of the academic program's accomplishments including the assessment of program-level student learning outcomes and associated results and actions implemented as a result of the findings. The program assessment plan will demonstrate the processes used to ensure program effectiveness and when implemented, provide the knowledge and data to highlight the program quality and actions implemented.
