This interdisciplinary and innovative Master's degree responds to the demands for professionals with a technical and comprehensive vision of the urban phenomenon beyond the concept of Cities and train practitioners in a scientific understanding of cities that considers our built environments and the people who inhabit it. James Myers, RIT associate provost of international education and global programs, describes City Sciences as "studying all functions of the city—from transportation, waste management, and the movement of goods and people, to the management and flow of information across the city. This is not a course in urban planning; city science as a discipline is totally new. We are the test bed of an emerging interdisciplinary plan of action that includes the designer, the technologist and the humanist all working together." Offered through the School of Individualized Study, this degree combines classes in engineering, architecture, public policy, and sustainability, and is only available to students at RIT Dubai. Participants will complete the program in 12 months. Participants can finish the program while working, and their final assignment will involve an innovative and comprehensive presentation at the end of the program.
