Kate Winnebeck

Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist

Kate Winnebeck is a senior environmental, health and safety specialist at the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology. Through the NYSP2I, Kate assists companies with product stewardship and reductions in toxic chemical use initiatives. She performs green product assessments, including evaluation of the product's environmental attributes, recyclability, and human health effects. Kate performs life cycle assessments (LCA) to assist companies in quantifying their environmental effects and determine areas for improvement. In her role as the Professional Wet Cleaning Program Manager, she provides assistance and education to NYS dry cleaners on environmentally preferable garment cleaning processes. Through workshops, Kate educates the public on toxics in toys, children's products, and personal care products.

Through RIT's affiliated Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies, Ms. Winnebeck performs safety and ergonomics risk assessments and training for manufacturers. The focus of her work is to develop sustainable, effective safety management teams to reduce the use of toxic and hazardous materials and promote a safe work environment. Training topics include recognizing potential safety hazards, identifying root causes, developing corrective actions, addressing noise and hearing protection, personal protective equipment selection, lockout/tagout and chemical inventories.

Ms. Winnebeck has a BS in environmental management and technology and an MS in environmental health & safety management, both from RIT. Kate is a Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional (LCACP).
