Priority Sector Program

NYSP2I addresses environmental issues facing a sector as a whole through Priority Sector projects where solutions and initiatives are developed to solve common environmental problems in specific industry sectors.

Key sectors are identified where potential pollution prevention opportunities or technology gaps may exist. NYSP2I conducts preliminary research to determine the state of the sector and whether further research or assistance is warranted. NYSP2I has conducted preliminary research in five sectors: Agricultural Plastics, Post-Consumer Carpet, Toxics in Toys and Children's Products, Dry Cleaning, and Hospitality.

NYSP2I currently has two main sector initiatives:

• Greening the NYS hospitality sector, including the NYS Green Certification Hotel Pilot Program.
• Facilitation and promotion of wet cleaning as an alternative to perchloroethylene (perc) use in the dry cleaning industry through the NYSP2I Professional Wet Cleaning Program.
