Message from Dean H. Fred Walker

Welcome to the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) website at RIT. CAST is known throughout the RIT, national, and international communities as THE place of choice for an education that embraces the integration of “hands-on learning” and application with a firm grounding in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. We have an outstanding faculty and staff, world class facilities and equipment, innovative curricula, and an infrastructure and campus that support unparalleled academic experiences. Our academic experiences occur inside and outside the classroom, academically and socially, and personally and professionally.

CAST academic programs are unique and our graduates are sought after by industry. Distinguishing characteristics of each program include the following:

• Career-focused curricula grounded in theory and enhanced through application,
• An expectation that all students make meaningful contributions in their areas of study,
• An expectation that all students complete cooperative educational experiences in their intended career fields,
• An expectation that all students have an opportunity to complete an international study experience, and
• Preparation to work in a global environment.

These characteristics are embodied in the programs offered in CAST’s five academic departments – The Center for Multidisciplinary Studies (CMS); Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management and Safety (CETEMS); Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering Technology (ECTET); The School of Hospitality and Service Management (HSM); and Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology/Packaging Science (MMET/PS) – and in CAST’s other units: The Center for Electronics Manufacturing and Assembly (CEMA), The Department of Military Science (Army ROTC), and The Department of Aerospace Studies (Air Force ROTC).

In any CAST program you choose, you will receive a very strong academic experience and education. You will also have the opportunity to engage in at least one area of study for which our curricula, faculty and staff expertise, and facilities and equipment are particularly focused and recognized as world leaders.

Our college offers numerous undergraduate and graduate degree programs – all of which are nationally accredited and many of which are available as online options. Our programs are offered on the Henrietta campus as well as our campuses in Dubai, Croatia, Kosovo, and the Dominican Republic.
