Welcome

Welcome to the Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management & Safety (CETEMS) department at RIT. If you are in search of a program that will help you make a difference in the world, you have come to the right place.

A Bit of History

Established in 1972, the BS degree in Civil Engineering Technology prepares students to enter careers in construction management, civil design, structural design or environmental controls. The curriculum uses a combination of challenging academics, hands-on laboratory experiences, and practical cooperative education to cultivate students who are grounded in applications-oriented approaches to solving the world's problems.

In 2006, the department created minors in Construction Management and Structural Design.

In response to a growing demand for environmental professionals, RIT created the nation's first BS degree in Environmental Management & Technology in 1991. Six years later an MS degree in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Management was added to further address the educational needs of EHS professionals and their employers. The EHS Management MS degree program may be completed entirely online with only two visits to campus.  In addition, it may be completed through a combination of online and traditional means for those students who want to attend the RIT campus.

In 2006, the department created a dual BS/MS degree in Environmental Technology & EHS Management that combines the two degree programs.  Students who successfully complete this dual degree are awarded both the BS degree in Environmental Technology and Management and the MS degree in Environmental Health and Safety Management.

Also in 2006, the department created a minor in Industrial Environmental Management.

The EHS triangle was completed in 2000 with the addition of the BS degree in Safety Technology.  With its roots in the environmental curriculum, this program is built on current and emerging strategies for managing the safety aspects of an organization.  This program is one of only a handful in the country offering a bachelor's degree in safety that is accredited by the American Board of Engineering Technology (ABET) and is available in an on-line learning format as well as through a combination of online and traditional means for those students who want to attend the RIT campus.

In 2006, the department created a dual BS/MS degree in Safety Technology & EHS Management.  Students who successfully complete this dual degree are awarded both the BS degree in Safety Technology and the MS degree in Environmental Health and Safety Management.

Also in 2006, the department created a new MS degree in Facility Management.  This degree may be completed entirely through online learning.

There are a number of other certificates and distance learning options available, so please continue into our site to read more about them. Welcome to CETEMS.

Department Strategic Plan

Vision:
