Water Resources Minor
Overview
RIT undergraduate students may select a Water Resources minor as part of their educational plan. The minor has elective flexibility so that a student may individualize the minor to his/her interests. The Water Resources minor will broaden the learning experiences and professional opportunities of students in technical disciplines who have an interest in engineering technology courses related to water treatment, wastewater treatment, hydrology, and the environment.
RIT undergraduate students from outside the Civil Engineering Technology Program will benefit from the Water Resources minor. Students with majors in Engineering Technology, Engineering, or Environmental Management would potentially benefit from the minor. Of course, the minor is not limited to students in these fields of study. Students in other programs who complete pre-requisite technical requirements would also find that this minor complements their degree program.
Who is Eligible?
- Non-Civil Tech. undergraduate students in any of the eight RIT colleges who have enough free and/or elective credits hours to complete a minor in a field different from their major and who have successfully completed the pre-requisite courses.
Who Might be Interested?
- Engineering and engineering technology students with a personal interest in the environment and how society manages its water resources. Engineering and engineering technology students could be employed at positions that involve water resource management.
- COLA students in Public Policy or Urban Community studies who wish to broaden their education to include the technical aspects of an issue that will increase in importance in the 21st century.
- COS students who wish to add depth to their education by including design and analysis of natural and engineered systems. Water resource management is essentially the application basic scientific knowledge for the betterment of society.
General Policies and Requirements:
- Only undergraduate matriculated students may enroll in the minor.
- Minor must be at least 20-quarter credit hours in length.
- Minor must be at least 20-quarter credit hours in length.
- Posting of the minor on a student’s transcript requires a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the minor courses.
- A minor may not be added after graduation.
Policies and requirements specific to the Water Resources minor:
- Students requesting the minor need to have a Minor Authorization Form signed by the Civil Engineering Technology Program Chair. Students should submit completed forms to their home department for processing.
- At least 20 credit hours from the courses listed below.
- The Water Resources minor meets the criteria established by the RIT Minors Policy [D.1.1] and the Curriculum Committee of the College of Applied Science and Technology.
