Prospective Students > Project Lead the Way
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses for middle school and high school students. Each year more than 400 high school teachers from PLTW-certified schools attend the Summer Training Institute at RIT. During the intensive sessions, the math, science and technology teachers learn to teach the PLTW courses and implement the pre-engineering programs in their schools. Students who attend the PLTW session here at RIT have the opportunity to earn RIT college credit for the work completed. Students who earn an 85 percent grade or higher in their PLTW courses and score 70 percent or higher on the RIT college credit exams are eligible to apply for RIT credit. The tuition charge for each four-unit course is $900, approximately a 70 percent discount on the current tuition cost. Students then have the opportunity to apply these RIT credits to the Master of Science in Cross Disciplinary Professional Studies program. PLTW students can transfer up to 30 credit hours of RIT/PLTW credit into the MS program and then transfer in an additional 12 quarter hours from another accredited institution into the MS program, leaving them only 8 credits of required course work to earn the MS in Cross Disciplinary Professional Studies.
