The year 2017 marks the 125th year of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. What started as a cooking program in 1893 has grown to become one of the top hospitality programs in the world with campuses in the US, Croatia, and Dubai. Our own campus in Croatia celebrates its 20th year of founding in 2017.
Vision and Mission
The department will draw on its own and RIT’s rich traditions and values and will build on the mission of the Institute: Through a blend of curricular, experiential, and research programs delivered within a student-centric culture, Rochester Institute of Technology prepares its students for successful careers in a global society.
The hospitality industry, as any other industry, faces evolutionary changes that affect every aspect of its operations. In the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, we strive to respond to these changes by continuously updating our curriculum and pedagogy to ensure our graduates are well-prepared to lead a technology-mediated, global industry.
Message from the Chair
The program is advantageously located close to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Niagara Falls, to some of the most picturesque and rich wine-growing regions of the world and along the world’s largest fresh water lakes. The area is rich in tourism destinations, foods, and major city centers including Buffalo (home of the Anchor Bar and the Buffalo Wings!). Toronto is just 3 hours away for a quick dose of Canadian!
Interested in Skiing and winter sports? A number of world class locations within about 6 hours of Rochester including Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort home of the 1980 Winter Olympics. Rich in food and wine culture, accessible sporting venues, and home to arts, and music festivals Rochester is a living lab for hospitality students and aficionados.
