Hospitality and Tourism Management Students Travel to Annual International Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Show in New York City
Hospitality and Tourism Management students, faculty and staff have traveled annually to New York City for the past 30 years to attend the International Hotel, Motel, and Restaurant Show. The annual event continues to be one of the department's strongest traditions. During the course of a weekend students attend the show, various seminars as well as tour some of New York City's most well-known hotels including the Waldorf-Astoria, Trump Tower, the London, the New Yorker and the Marriott Marquis just to name a few. Students also get to experience fine dining as well as lodging at a luxury hotel. To help offset costs of the trip, hospitality students organize and hold various fundraising events throughout the academic year.
The always well attended event also engages RIT's hospitality alumni who readily provide students with a glimpse of what life is really like post-graduation while working in the hospitality and tourism industry. A very popular highlight of the trip is the alumni dinner—providing the perfect opportunity for students to network with and seek advice from our alumni. Upon their return to campus, students share the educational experiences they've taken away from the weekend with faculty, RIT's Student Government as well as other hospitality students. Topics may cover everything from the tours of five-star hotels to networking experiences, and seminars on current trends in the industry.
