A specialized lab to aid students in understanding the fundamental concepts related to:

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Connecting field devices with PLC
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI)
  • Motion Control Systems
  • Communication and networking of PLCs
  • Use of different Sensors in manufacturing environment

Highlights

This lab is made available to students in a variety of ways.

  • First, during scheduled labs, the student has access to the lab and equipment with a faculty member present to answer any questions as well as observe demonstrations of assigned lab work.
  • Second, students have card-swipe access to the laboratories at posted times.
  • In addition, students who take this course online get remote connectivity to all the hardware. They can program through Ethernet and check their PLC program at any time with the help of 24x7 video stream of the PLC setup.

PLC Trainer:

  • Ethernet based — Programmed and Controlled over Ethernet
  • Based on CompactLogix (Logix5000 Family)
  • Emulates different industrial inputs and outputs like
    • Selector Switch, Push Buttons, Thumbwheel Switch
    • Lights, 7-Segment LED Display
    • DC Motor, Stepper Motor
    • Pneumatic Cylinder
  • Temperature Control Unit using Analog I/O modules

PLC Controlled X-Y Platform

  • X-Y Platform for motion control
  • Based on ControlLogix PLC (Logix5000 Family)
  • Head follows the path defined in program
  • Stepper motor based precise movement
  • Suitable for assembly work

Motion Control System

  • Kinetix and SERCOS Based Motion Control System
