Message from the Chair

Daniel Johnson

Welcome to the department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology and Packaging Science, MMET/PS. I am happy you have found our website, and am confident you will find our programs engaging and rewarding.

MMET/PS provides rigorous and challenging academics that prepare our graduates to succeed in the engineering world. With a faculty committed to excellence, each undergraduate program provides a significant theoretical foundation coupled with extensive design and project experiences throughout the curriculum. Cooperative educational work experiences are the hallmark of an RIT education. Each MMET/PS undergraduate program includes 15 months of cooperative education.

Mathematics and the physical sciences are introduced in a just-in-time fashion while technical courses are incorporated into every quarter of the five-year program. Students are introduced to the excitement of engineering in their very first quarter as they construct a robot to compete against their peers. Progressing through the curriculum, projects become larger and design experiences more intense. By the fifth year of the program, students participate in extensive, project-based, laboratory work as they ready themselves to be self-sufficient in the engineering and packaging science workplace.

Opportunities abound for the students of MMET/PS. An engaging, relevant, and technologically current curriculum provides the foundation to launch a career that is limited only by one’s imagination. If you desire to excel in product design, alternative energies, or implementing cutting-edge materials, MMET/PS has opportunities for you. With the possibility of undergraduate research, study abroad, and international cooperative education experiences, each student has the opportunity to grow, learn, and be challenged.
