Department of Packaging Science

Message from the Chair

Daniel Johnson

Welcome to the department of Packaging Science. I am happy you have found our website, and am confident you will find our program engaging and rewarding.

Our department provides rigorous and challenging academics that prepare our graduates to succeed as packaging professionals. With a faculty committed to excellence, our undergraduate program provides a significant theoretical foundation coupled with extensive design and project experiences throughout the curriculum. Cooperative educational work experiences are the hallmark of an RIT education, and the Packaging Science undergraduate program includes at least two blocks of cooperative education.

Mathematics and the physical sciences are introduced in a just-in-time fashion while technical courses are incorporated into every semester. Students are introduced to new aspects of the multidimensional packaging field each semester. Progressing through the curriculum, projects become larger and design experiences more intense. By the final year of the program, students participate in realistic project-based design challenges as they ready themselves to be self-sufficient in the packaging science workplace.

Opportunities abound for the students in Packaging Science. An engaging, relevant, and technologically current curriculum provides the foundation to launch a career that is limited only by one’s imagination. If you desire to excel in package design or implementing cutting-edge sustainable packaging solutions, Packaging Science has opportunities for you. With the possibility of undergraduate research, study abroad, and international cooperative education experiences, each student has the opportunity to grow, learn, and be challenged.
