Non-Toxic Printmaking at R.I.T.
The Non-Toxic Printmaking Program at R.I.T. was initiated to expand
the offerings of the School of Art to include the latest innovations
in the fine art field of printmaking. We view the non-toxic printmaking
program as an important component and compliment to the other fine
art disciplines that rank R.I.T's School of Art as one of the top
in the country. Non-toxic printmaking is taught at all undergraduate
and graduate levels and students can opt to undertake non-toxic
printmaking as a major subject of specialization.
To assume a leading role in graduate studies within non-toxic
printmaking R.I.T. has tailored their M.S.T (Masters in the Science
of Teaching) and M.F.A. (Masters in Fine Art) programs to include
a major in Non-Toxic Printmaking.
To meet the demand of in-service or re-training of printmaking
professionals R.I.T. has initiated an intensive 12 credit
Graduate Certificate in Non-Toxic Intaglio Printmaking (Graduate
Certificate). This Graduate Certificate is the only accredited program
of its type in the world and has been designed so that printmaking
professionals can make the transition from traditional toxic intaglio
printmaking media to
non-toxic.
MST and the Graduate Certificate could be undertaken as a on or
off-campus Mentor option depending on the professional background
of the applicant. In cases where applicants have already attained
an MFA and or have teaching experience then transfer credits may
apply and the off-campus study option may be applicable. Those applicants
who qualify for the off-campus Mentor study option should have access
to a
printmaking studio and have time, material resources, self discipline
and motivation to dedicate to this kind of independent study. Students
enrolled in the off-campus Mentor program will be under direct advisement
from the head of the non-toxic printmaking program through Internet
and telephone interaction. Studio workbooks and portfolio
review will be major elements related to course completion within
the off-campus Mentor program.
