David J. Reed


Born in Yokosuka, Japan an up to the age of ten travelled extensively between Japan, Australia, and America. After receiving his Associate of Arts in California in 1969, immigrated to Perth, Western Australia. After achieving his degree in design, he worked as a graphic Designer for three years. In 1975 he joined the Art Gallery of Western Australia as an Education Officer and remained in that position until 1989. After leaving the gallery, he lectured in design for the WA School of Art and Design while studing for both his Diploma in Printmaking and his Teaching Certificate. He received both in 1990. He then went to live in Tokyo, teaching English and exhibiting his artwork until 1996. Then he travelled for 6 months through America and Canada, returning to Western Australia the same year, and taught Computer-imaging and English at various colleges in Perth. In the year 2000, he moved to New York for two years, to study for a Masters in Fine Art at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). During this period, he perfected a Four-colour plate intaglio process in Non-Toxic printmaking. He is now currently lecturing at the RIT, Monroe Community College, and Bryant & Stratton.
