Koizumi International Lighting Design Competition

Competition Theme "Lighting of the Global Age" Currently 6.3 billion people inhabit Earth. We extend an invitation for lighting design that conforms to the notion of public space, that is commonly shared by nations ranging from troubled regions to economically affluent countries and that is based on the belief that lighting is received equally no matter which world one lives in, in the same way that the sun's rays shine with equal intensity over anyone on Earth.

Concept:

The inspiration of this design is the essences of sunlight. To me, sunlight represents warmth, happiness, joyfulness, playfulness, closeness and life. However, people take the sun for granted and only miss it when it is scarce. The concept is to create a light that captures the essences of sunlight and create closer relationship with people. There will be slits in the lamp, so when people hug or squeeze them, more lights will come through. The shape and material for the cover encourages people to touch, hold close and bond. This pillow light is battery operated so people can bring it with them wherever they go.
