The 100+ year old School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology is internationally recognized for programs of study in the still and moving image exploring advertising; fine art; photojournalism; visual media; biomedical photographic communications; and photographic imaging and technology. Acclaimed faculty, staff, and cutting edge facilities provide students with an immersive learning community supporting career-oriented degrees including Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA); Bachelor of Science (BS); and the Master of Fine Arts (MFA). Photo University is supported by state-of-the-art facilities from the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. Beginning at capture and concluding with output, the School's facilities provide for a variety of historical and contemporary experiences in the production of still and moving images. Multiple digital imaging labs boast an abundance of individual workstations consisting of computers, monitors, printers and scanners, and the newest in software products. Participants interested in investigating analog processes will also find up-to-date black and white and color darkrooms and large, open workspaces. The School's facilities maintain 30 individual shooting studios, equipped with strobe gear, tungsten lights and a wide variety of accessories. An especially large studio, affectionately known as North Light, simulates a New York City shooting loft environment.
The School's facilities are professionally organized, managed and equipped to ensure an enriched and creative environment for image-makers. SPAS has no peers! A fully appointed Imaging Systems Lab (ISL) offering a variety of output services, including wide format inkjet, digital to traditional silver-based paper on a Durst Lamda, mini-lab printing and high quality photographic books, completes the unique setting of the School's facilities as the primary site for the Photo University.
Digital Den: RIT Photography and Electronic Store
RIT purports the only full service photography store on a university campus in the United States. Managed by a knowledgeable and courteous staff, the Digital Den offers a large array of photo and computer-related merchandise at competitive or discounted prices. It offers a great selection of cameras in a wide range of formats, an assortment of papers and film, including hard-to-find products, light meters, flash and lighting units, and every imaginable accessory for the analog and digital photographer. The School and College
The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences is one of the largest of the six Schools in the prestigious College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at RIT. Other Schools in the College include Print Media, Film and Animation, American Crafts, Design and Art. The College has a deep, rich legacy as a leader in imaging practices in the fine arts, graphic arts, photography and imaging sciences. Its extensive network of alumni number in the thousands and occupy positions of note in every facet of the imaging world.
Location, Lodging & Maps
All courses will be held at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. The third largest city in New York State, Rochester is located on Lake Ontario, about midway between Niagara Falls and Syracuse, and within easy driving distance to Toronto. Please consult the list of links on the right side of this page for further information about the points of interest in the Rochester area and the RIT campus.
RIT does not make hotel reservations, but has made arrangements for attendees to reserve rooms at nearby host hotels. Rooms will be held only until two weeks prior to the seminar date. After this time, rooms are reserved on a space-available basis only.
All host hotels provide complimentary transportation to and from the Rochester airport and RIT each day of the program. All other travel arrangements are the responsibility of the participant. Please see the list of links on the right side of this page for further information about travel to and around Rochester.
Scheduling, Weather, and Dress
Daily sessions generally begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30p.m. Dress is business casual. Weather in Rochester can vary greatly from day to day; please consult weather reports and plan accordingly.

Certificate of Completion
RIT provides each participant with a Certificate of Completion that serves as a permanent record of attendance. This certificate indicates the course and dates that you attended. You may want to place a copy of it in your personnel ﬁle to document your professional development.
Attendee Cancellation Policy
We will refund your full program fee if you cancel or transfer your registration to another program, 10 or more working days before a program begins. No refunds will be given for cancellations or transfers made less than 10 working days before a program begins.
We cannot give you a refund for non-attendance. However, you are welcome to send someone in your place if you cannot attend.
Program Modification/Cancellation Policy
Occasionally, RIT must modify fees, content, and faculty without additional notice. If a program is canceled, RIT will notify registered participants 10 days prior to the scheduled date of the program. RIT is not responsible for airline ticket cancellation costs or fees.
RIT will keep private any information that you provide to us. This information is stored and used to respond to your requests, alert you to training and education opportunities, and continually update our programs and services to meet customer needs. We do not sell or share any of the information you provide. RIT may publish photographs of program participants for promotional use.

- Seminar registrations will be confirmed upon receipt of payment.
- All fees include the cost of instructional materials and lunch each day of the program.
- Program fees are listed at the end of each program description on our Web site and in the printed catalog.
- Mail registrations may be paid for by check, VISA, MasterCard, American Express.
- Fax and phone registrations require a credit card.
- Online registrations are secure and use the institute-wide RIT payment system.
