FROSTBITE SPORTS
SENIOR RIT PHOTOJOURNALISM STUDENTS
Frost Bite Sports. This photography project was
conceived and produced by a staff of 2008 senior
photojournalism students at the Rochester Institute of
Technology looking to merge photography with extreme
winter sports like it has never been done before. The web
site was designed and developed by Tim Maiura, a senior
new media design & imaging student.
Each sport featured has a different characteristic that makes
it extreme. For someone to take on one of these sports, they
themselves must also be extreme. The question we attempt
to address is not "how they do it", but rather'Why they do it".
Please join us for a look into these athletes passions.
Discover for yourself why they do - what they do!

Charles Arnold Lecture Series & SPAS Present
Lana Slezic - Forsaken
Where: Carlson Auditorium (Building 76) Room 1125
When: Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Time: 7:00pm
There will be a book signing following the lecture along with an informal
seminar on Thursday March 27 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Building 7A Room 1400.
Biography
Born in 1973 of Croatian heritage in Toronto, photographer Lana Slezic grew up with the language and culture of Croatia in her daily life. She spent the summers of her formative years in Dubrovnik with her grandparents.
Following her education, Lana worked at The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star for two years but she found that the nature of daily assignments lacked the depth she wanted to devote to the issues she was interested in. She soon turned to documentary photography.
Influenced by many of the Magnum Photo Agency photographers in New York and their dedication to documentary photography, Lana has since pursued several long-term projects. Always drawn to people, she photographs the beauty, the fallibility and the inconsistency of human nature.
Most recently, Lana received international recognition for Forsaken, a collection of photographs for which she spent two years in Afghanistan, documenting the lives of Afghan women. Forsaken has been printed in four languages in eight countries. Selected as one of twelve photographers internationally to participate at the World Press Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam, winner of the Luis Valtuena International Award for Humanitarian Photography Special Prize, second place winner of two International Photography Awards, recognized at Rencontres D'Arles and nominated for the Ontario Premier's Awards among others, Lana has also been published in Time Magazine, The New York Times, Paris Match, British Vogue and National Geographic.
Lana has also exhibited widely. For more information, please visit www.lanaslezic.com
Her recent book 'Forsaken' was named Book of the Year by American Photographer for 2007. http://www.popphoto.com/americanphotofeatures/4918/the-best-photo-books-of-2007.html

These "snapshots" were made on January 19, 2008
during the annual MAC Group shootout. This is an event where pairs of
students work on a 2-hour time limited deadline to solve a visual
assignment that varies from year to year. This year's theme was PSYCHOTIC.
If you click on the image below you will get to
