Frequently Asked Questions

You will be immediately ready for employment and professional growth within the persuasive professions qualifying for positions in business, government and the not-for-profit sectors.
Graduate work is also an option, especially since the department of communication has a master of science degree in Communication & Media Technologies (CMT). This is an interdisciplinary program of study combining courses in communication with course work in an applied or professional program. Visit the Website, http://www.rit.edu/cla/communication or consult the RIT Graduate Bulletin.
You can also earn a master of business administration. The department has an agreement with the College of Business allowing you to earn a B.S. and an MBA in five years. For further information, contact your advisor.
Can I minor/concentrate in APR?
APR classes can be taken to fulfill the required classes for a communication minor/concentration, but an APR minor/concentration is not yet offered. PTC students cannot minor/concentrate in APR; they must minor/concentrate in a program outside Liberal Arts.
Is it easy to transfer into APR?
In most cases, transfer from some other degree program (both within and outside of RIT) to APR is very easy. Students who've earned an Associate's degree at a two-year school can be virtually assured of Junior or near-Junior status in APR once they arrive at RIT.
What is Cooperative Education (co-op)?
Co-op - full-time paid employment - provides you with employment experience as well as the opportunity to practice and further develop skills in your chosen profession. APR students engage in two quarters of co-op.
What is the "Professional Core" APR students are required to complete?
The APR Professional Core is a supplemental, second field of study consisting of 16 credit hours (4 classes) in Marketing in the College of Business. The Professioanl Core constitutes a kind of "minor" to the PTC curriculum. To increase scheduling flexibility, your Professional Core should be started as early as possible - not your junior year.
