Graduate Program


Applications for admission are accepted all year long, but most full-time students begin their program of study in the fall. To apply online click here.

Admission to the program is based on the following criteria:

  • Graduate Application
  • Successful completion of the baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university accompanied by official transcripts
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Minimum score of 570 (paper-based) or 88-89 ( Internet-based) TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS for speakers of English as a foreign language.
  • Three letters of reference from academic advisors, major professors and/or supervisors or managers
  • Submission of a writing portfolio. This consists of three samples of your writing. The combination of samples can take the form of term papers, press releases, advertising copy, creative works, reports, and anything that would allow us to evaluate your writing style beyond your statement of educational objectives.
  • All credentials must be submitted and reviewed before the student is admitted.
  • You may be automatically accepted and have the application fee waived if you have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and a bachelor's degree in communication from one of the following colleges:
    • State University of New York, Geneseo
    • State University of New York, Fredonia
    • State University of New York, Brockport
    • Nazareth College, Rochester
    • Otterbein College, Westerville, OH
    • State University of New York, Oswego
    • Ryder University
    • Utica College
    • Niagara University
    • Slippery Rock University
    • Johnson C. Smith University
