As your knowledge deepens, you will develop a research interest in a particular area of communication that may serve as the subject of your thesis. Choose a thesis advisor most knowledgeable in this area from among the School of Communication faculty. Your advisor must have a Ph.D. degree. To complete your thesis committee you need one more member from outside the School to guide you through to completion. The outside member should have a terminal degree in a professional or technical discipline.

Your thesis committee helps you develop a thesis and guides your research. The role of the committee is to advise, assess, and help you to completion. You may design project material for a client, but your client may not act as a thesis committee member. Consult with your committee often, provide them with draft versions of your thesis as you write it and solicit their feedback throughout the thesis process.
