Is a minor in Journalism currently offered?

A minor in Journalism is offered by the Department of Communication.  Journalism courses may be taken to fulfill the required classes for a communication minor/concentration.

How easy is it to transfer into the Journalism Program?

In most cases the transfer process to Journalism both from inside and outside RIT is very easy.  Students who have earned an Associates degree at a two-year school can be virtually assured of Junior or near-Junior status in Journalism once they arrive at RIT.

Will I have access to the Computers and Programs I need to succeed?

In nearly every building, RIT has computer labs that are open to student use.  These labs have all the latest industry standard software on both Mac and PC platforms including the Adobe Suite, the Office Suite, and more.

What is Cooperative Education (co-op) and what where do I go for help?

Co-op — full-time paid employment — provides you with employment experience as well as the opportunity to practice and further develop skills in your chosen profession. Journalism students are required to complete two quarters of co-op.  Each student is assigned to a co-op placement advisor who oversees the co-op search process.  Your co-op placement advisor’s office will be located in the Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services.
