Communication Portfolio

All communication majors create a Portfolio comprised of projects, papers and related professional materials. The portfolio is compiled during your college career, usually in consultation with your advisor.  Your Communication Portfolio functions as a kind of "billboard" for your abilities, skills, and knowledge. Each Spring Quarter the Department hosts a Portfolio Review Day when Department of Communication seniors present their portfolio work in a public space for review and comment by faculty, staff and peers.

Your Portfolio should be representative of your significant academic and professional accomplishments. Portfolio elements should be drawn both from course assignments and Co-op work you produced. Typically, Communication Portfolios are presented in three-ring binders with an accompanying CD duplicating the printed version. Portfolios include design work (a conference program or newsletter; a business card, stationery and envelope; a web site; a brochure a CD cover), academic and professional writing (term papers and professional reports), and publications (articles you wrote and were published; stories you "pitched" and that were carried by the press).

Creating your Communication Portfolio is an exercise in gathering together work you've previously produced and then presenting it in a compelling and attractive fashion. Use your Portfolio as part of your career preparation and interviewing documentation.
