DOC Partners with Democrat and Chronicle to Train Future Journalists

During the week of July 8, six Rochester-area high school students will be introduced to the latest trends in journalism at the Taub Academy for Multimedia Journalism, a joint effort of the Department of Communication and the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.  The students receive instruction in reporting and producing stories on multiple platforms from DOC professors Andrea Hickerson and Ammina Kothari, and journalists from the newspaper.  Four days are spent on the RIT campus, where students have the opportunity to report on campus activities, and one day at the Democrat and Chronicle offices.  Each student produces a videotaped story that is placed on the newspaper’s Web site.

The partnership is in its second year.  Two students from last year’s Taub Academy will be joining the Department of Communication’s Journalism degree program in the fall.
