Kelly Martin Wins National Science Foundation Grant

July 10, 2014

Congratulations to Department of Communication Assistant Professor Kelly Martin who, with Ben Zwickl of the RIT School of Physics and Astronomy, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Education and Human Resources Core Research grant of just under $400,000.  The supported project, “Transfer of math, physics, and communication skills into the entry-level photonics workforce,” will study how mathematics, scientific content knowledge, and communication skills are actually used in the workplace.  According to the grant summary, “This project examines multiple perspectives of a ‘skills gap’ as well as the use of these skills within the Rochester-region optics, photonics, and imaging community.”  NSF grants are extremely competitive and highly prized, so this is a singular achievement for Professor Martin.
