Your PTC Advisor

banner

You are assigned an academic advisor upon acceptance into PTC. Your advisor is a full-time DOC faculty member who helps you along your educational journey. Your advisor's name is listed on your fall schedule when you enroll in classes and can easily be found on the Student Information System web page http://infocenter.rit.edu/.

Your advisor helps you select classes and sign up for your Professional Core, and offers guidance throughout your educational experience. Your advisor also makes sure you take the right classes, in the correct sequence, to help you graduate on time. Meet with your advisor regularly - especially before you register for classes each quarter. Also, your advisor can help you take advantage of RIT's many forms of student support: workshops and one-on-one help with developing good study and notetaking skills, maximizing efficient time management and more.

Your Peer Mentors

The Department of Communication has on staff at least two (and as many as five) Peer Mentors who make the transition to our Department smoother. Peer Mentors offer advice that is refreshingly insightful and different from that which might be found in your academic advisor's office. These upper level students in PTC, Journalism, and APR are extremely helpful and can answer many questions you have. They're excellent resources for questions or concerns about classes, clubs on campus, student-run activities and other stuff about both the Department and RIT. However, Peer Mentors do not assist you with academic advising; see your faculty advisor for help with course selection and other matters related to fulfilling your degree requirements.
