Professional Core

banner

Your PTC Professional Core is a supplemental, second field of study consisting of 20 credit hours which constitute a kind of "minor" to the PTC curriculum and is outside of the Liberal Arts. To increase scheduling flexibility, your Professional Core should be selected as early as possible--certainly no later than the beginning of your junior year.

When choosing a Professional Core, select a field of study that is of personal and professional interest, perhaps something you would consider as a career choice. Your options range from Business to Fine Art Photography, Physics and much more. Your plan of study is pretty much up to you and should be drawn up well in advance of intended registration for core courses. Keep in mind, some of the Professional Core choices have prerequisites--be sure to map out your selections early to avoid scheduling or availability conflicts.

If you are a transfer student, you may be able to use coursework credit from your previous college as part of your core requirement--check with your advisor. Here are just a few examples of the many choices mapped out as pre-designed Professional Cores:

These samples represent but a few of the possibilities! Others include: Computer Science, Photographic Arts and Science, Science, Public Relations, Telecommunications and Graphic Design. If the pre-designed Professional Cores don't offer what you're looking for, you may, with the help of your advisor, create an Individually Designed Core. An individually designed professional core is just that: one specifically tailored to your unique educational interests and professional aspirations.

Ask your advisor for more details and to help you invent an individually designed professional core. If you have questions or concerns, or if you encounter difficulties registering for classes in your Professional Core, contact your PTC advisor immediately. You may need special permission to enroll in a course when registering from an outside college.
