I.F Composition and Election of the Honors Committee

A. Composition of the Committee:

  1. One member shall be elected from each undergraduate department or undergraduate program that is represented on the Dean's Council.
  2. The Honors Advocate and the Honors Coordinator are ex officio members of the Committee. The Honors Advocate serves as liaison to the Institute Honors Program.
  3. The Committee shall invite a non-voting student representative from the honors student body.

B. Election of the Committee Members and Terms of Office:

  1. Members are elected for two-year terms. In order to effect staggered terms of service, the first Committee shall draw lots to choose half of its members to serve for one year.
  2. At its first meeting of the academic year the Committee shall elect a Chair and four departmental or program members to serve as the Steering Committee for that year. The Chair shall also serve as Chair of the Steering Committee. The Honors Advocate and the Honors Coordinator will be ex officio members of the Steering Committee.

C. Committee Responsibilities:

  1. The College of Liberal Arts Honors Committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Liberal Arts general education Honors Program. (Responsibility for overseeing the various Honors Programs within the degree programs of the College rests with the faculty of the degree programs, and will normally be coordinated by a committee composd of the Chairs of the departments offering baccalaureate degrees.)
  2. The Steering Committee will oversee the routine business of the honors program.
  3. The Chair shall call a meeting of the full committee when required.
  4. Reports or recommendations to the faculty shall be reported from the enitre Committee.
