Faculty Governance

I.G Summer Teaching

Summer teaching assignments are contingent upon requisite enrollments and a minimum of ten student registrations are required for each course to be offered. If a course has fewer than the requisite number of student enrollments as of the day before classes are to begin, the course will be cancelled. Faculty will be notified by department chairs.

However, in order to preserve some summer stipends, the options denoted below may be available upon request.

  1. If the College has need for another course, and the faculty member is qualified and willing to offer the needed course, the department chair or the Dean may request that another scheduled course be offered.
  2. If the member of the faculty is scheduled to teach two courses and experiences a shortfall in enrollment in only one course, the faculty member may request that both courses be sustained provided that the combined enrollment for both courses is a minimum of 24 students. Appropriate arrangements for modifying the lower enrolled course must be approved by the Dean under this option.
  3. A member of the faculty may propose to substitute a special project for the cancelled course at the same summer stipend. It is expected that this option would be available only in extraordinary circumstances upon approval by the Dean.
