I.H Process for Study Abroad Concentration
I. Requirements:
- The student must have a 2.8 cumulative GPA in previous Liberal Arts courses.
- A Liberal Arts faculty member must agree to be the Concentration Advisor for the student before the proposal is prepared and submitted.
- If the student is interested in a Foreign Language course for the Concentration, the Coordinator of Foreign Languages must approve the request before the proposal is submitted. Foreign languages must be upper level or advanced courses.
- The Study Abroad Concentration must have some unifying theme or content.
- The concentration may include no more than one independent study course. In such a course the student will prepare a significant research report on the theme of the concentration. The faculty member must agree to sponsor this course in advance.
II. Procedure:
- The student should complete the attached form, secure the approval and signature of the faculty member willing to sponsor the Study Abroad Concentration, and then submit the proposal along with the College catalog description of the courses considered, to the Liberal Arts Coordinator of Academic Advising, who will review it. If the Coordinator finds the proposal in order, she will submit the proposal to the relevant Liberal Arts Academic Department Chairs for their approval. Upon the approval of these committees, the Coordinator of Academic Advising will forward the proposal to the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts who will register the concentration as a Liberal Arts Study Abroad Concentration. It will then be the responsibility of the student to inform the Associate Dean when he has completed the concentration.
