II.A.2 Tenure Committee

  1. In accord with Institute Policy, the Tenure Committee will be composed of seven tenured faculty members: one appointed by the Academic Senate from a list of nominees approved by the faculty of the other Colleges of RIT and six elected by the tenured and tenure-track members of each of six academically affiliated divisions of the College: Language and Literature; Fine Arts and Philosophy; Political Science and History; STS/Public Policy and Sociology/Anthropology; Psychology, School Psychology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work; Economics and Communication.
  2. Elected Committee members shall serve staggered two-year terms. No member may be reelected for a consecutive term. Faculty on leave during Winter Quarter are ineligible for the Committee. A tenured faculty member will be elected to complete the term of a Committee member on leave Winter Quarter the second year of a term.
  3. Elections shall be completed no later than April 30th of the academic year preceding the year in which the Committee is to be convened.
  4. The chair of the Committee shall be elected from among, and by, the six Liberal Arts faculty at the Committee’s first meeting.
  5. Immediately following the election of the members of the Tenure Committee in the spring, elections will be held to determine nominees to present to the Academic Senate for appointment to the Tenure Committees of other RIT Colleges. Two tenured faculty shall be elected at large by the tenured and tenure-track faculty members no later than May 7th.
