Faculty Governance

III.A Policy-Making

1. Scope: Liberal Arts faculty may formulate policy governing actions within the College of Liberal Arts. Such policy can govern areas not covered by Institute policy or areas covered only generally by Institute policy. Institute policies take precedence over Liberal Arts policies, and Liberal Arts policies take precedence over the policies of any Department or unit within Liberal Arts.

2. Process: Any faculty member or the Dean of the College may propose policy. Normally, proposed policy will be considered by an appropriate committee before action by the faculty. Final adoption of policy requires approval by the faculty in accordance with established college voting procedures and approval of the Dean of Liberal Arts. Responsibility for implementation of policy ultimately rests with the Dean of Liberal Arts as the chief administrative officer of the College. Once policy is established by the faculty, a statement of that policy shall be added to the College Policies and Procedures.
