Performing Artists Concert Series: Rod Blumenau and the Upstate Dixieland Jass Band

Friday, April 6, 2018 - 8:00pm
Ingle Auditorium, RIT

Rod Blumenau has assembled a group of outstanding Dixieland musicians who will authentically perform music from the 19s and 20s. The Band: Rod Blumenau (piano); Tim Clarke (trumpet/cornet); Ron "PeeWee" Joseph (clarinet); Mark Kellogg (trombone); Brad Paxton (drums); and Jeff Campbell on bass.

Rod says, "A lot of jazz musicians pay lip service to Dixieland jazz; I really love it! It was the first style of jazz I learned to play, and when played correctly, it really cooks! Over the years Dixieland has gotten a bad name from bands that play it too fast, too corny, and with too much emphasis on the straw hats and red suspenders and other entertainment "shtick". I hope folks will consider coming out to RIT on April 6th to hear how great this original style of jazz sounds when played authentically!"
