Dr. Elisabetta D'amanda, Senior lecturer of Italian recently created an amazing documentary!
It is a project of 2 years with Thomas Warfield and his great dancers together with Astrophysics Director Manuela Campanelli and her team supported by a grant of National Science Foundation and dedicated to the tradition of Rossellini and his Media lab at Rice University.
Elisabetta Sanino D’Amanda has received a doctorate in Italian and Spanish from the Middlebury College in 2010 with a dissertation on the Director Mimmo Calopresti, titled La prospettiva meridiana di Mimmo Calopresti nel Nuovo cinema italiano. She is Senior Lecturer of Italian and Italian program coordinator in the Rochester Institute of Technology. She also directs a Study and Work Abroad program based in Genova, Italy from 2004. From 2011 she teaches Italian and Italian Cinema at the Italian School of Middlebury College in the summer Language School.
In Italy, she has worked in film and television as an actor in lead roles with directors such as Dino Risi, Pupi Avati, Mimmo Calopresti, Felice Farina, and Guido Chiesa. She is writing a book on teaching Italian through the use of film, and her interviews with director Mimmo Calopresti and Guido Chiesa will be included in a forthcoming book published in Italy. She holds an MFA candidate in Film Production at the Rochester Institute of Technology and has completed two short documentary films, As Good As Bread (2008) and Silent Flame (2009), focusing respectively on the Italian American community of Rochester, NY and the cochlear implant discussion. In 2014 completed her MFA Thesis Torino Is My Town and in 2015 she completed the film Astrodance: Dance About the Wonders of the Universe for the NSF grant Astrodance.
She is currently in pre-production in Italy for a documentary focusing on Italian and Us Deaf youth and a second one on the enclave of Italian Anarchist in Barre, VT.
In her free time, she enjoys acting for fellow filmmakers, singing, and especially dancing her first artistic training.
