A Ciascuno il Suo (We Still Kill the Old Way, Zwei Särge Auf Bestellung )
Author/Director: Elio Petri
Sicilia, late '60s. Two men are killed during a hunting party. The hurried inquiry indicates that it was a killing made for 'honor' reasons. Paolo Laurana is a leftist professor not convinced of the official truth and starts investigating by himself. He finds some help from a solicitor, Mr. Rosello. While investigating, he is fascinated by Luisa, the widow of one of the victims. But the reality is too different from what Laurana could imagine. Reality includes not only the mafia and corrupt politicians, but also Church connections. The reality is that there could be only one end for Laurana. It won't take long.
NOTE: The title of this film is extremely ambiguous, and appears to depend on where and when it was released. Although the movie was made in Italy, the story takes place in Italy and the director is Italian, the spoken dialog is German. The DVD in the MLTC Collection is Part 2 of a German-issued box set (MLTC ID 5131) containing two other Elio Petri films. It lists this movie as Zwei Särge Auf Bestellung (Two Coffins on Order). Further, the Italian title translates as To Each His Own, but the English title of the movie is listed in the Internet Movie Database as We Still Kill the Old Way.
Also note that the box set consists of Region 2 disks that will not play in most DVD players sold in the US and Canada.
