Concentrations and Minors

The College of Liberal Arts offers students two options for completion of their upper level liberal arts requirements. Students may choose to do a Liberal Arts Concentration or a Liberal Arts Minor. It is important to note that the lower level liberal arts requirements, the Core requirements, remain the same regardless of whether the student elects to do a Concentration or a Minor. Refer to the Core requirements for your individual program to be sure you are taking the appropriate courses.

The Liberal Arts Concentration
consists of three upper level (400 or 500) courses in a specified area of study and three liberal arts electives. Concentrations may be disciplinary or interdisciplinary. Some concentrations require a pre-requisite that must be taken in the core. Refer to the description of each concentration for specific requirements.

The Liberal Arts Minors
are designed for students who wish to build a secondary area of expertise into their program of study. Minors require five designated courses in a specified area and one liberal arts elective. Again, some minors are disciplinary, others are interdisciplinary. Some minors require a pre-requisite that must be taken in the core. Refer to the description of each minor for specific requirements.

Each Concentration and Minor is different. It is essential to follow the requirements stated. Advising is available through the Office of Student Services in the College of Liberal Arts. The office is located in Building 06, Suite 2210.
