Updates from Recent Alumni from the Class of 2003!

Julie Ozols:

Where are you currently working? Webster Central School District

What do you spend the most amount of time doing at your school? The least? Most = TESTING and report writing Consulting is a close second. Least = counseling

How is the change from internship to a job in the  field? I went from a rural BOCES to a suburban district so the change was HUGE! Policies, procedures, expectations... but report writing is still report writing, so in that there isn't much difference

Do you miss RIT? Not RIT itself, nor the work load, but the ability to discuss things with other professionals... YES. What's your favorite thing about being a new school psychologist? I love my job. I love feeling like I am actually doing something for the betterment of a child's education. Your least favorite thing? Being a "newbie" to the field and therefore looked down on a bit.

Do you have any wisdom you would like to impart to our current practicum students and interns? Wisdom? Huh, that's a tough one. I think I would say to be careful of what you say, HOW you say it, and who you say it to. You may not know it, but your words carry a lot of weight simply due to your title. Good luck all! It's well worth it once you are done!

Megan Lococo:

Where are you currently working? Annapolis MD, working for the Anne Arundel County Public School

What do you spend the most amount of time doing at your school? Testing, meetings, and counseling- IEP and crisis.

How is the change from internship to a job in the field? Very similar. The internship was great preparation.

Do you miss RIT? Sort of, but I really like the job.

What's your favorite thing about being a new school psychologist? They buy me my own test kits! Your least favorite thing? Not knowing the process or what the expectations are in each school.
