Each 3rd
year school psychology student is placed in a full-time internship
site where they continue to develop their professional skills in
order to function as an independent school psychologist upon
graduation from the program. Below are testimonials from RIT's
current 3rd
year school psychology students.
Lindsey Calabrese:
I am currently
interning under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Duffy at The Park
School, located in Buffalo, NY. Park is a Pre-K through 12th
grade private school, with an enrollment of about 250 students. At
Park, I am an active member of the Child Study Team, where we discuss
any new referrals, monitor the progress of students currently
receiving services, and review/develop IEPs and 504 Plans. I conduct
all counseling at the school, including both individual and group.
Topics include, stress management, test anxiety, organization, study
skills, etc. I also manage a Response-Cost
program three days per week after school for students that have a
pattern of not handing in their homework. There, I supervise/help
them complete homework, track their assignments, stay organized, and
monitor progress in the program. In addition, I run and/or assist
with seminar classes regarding primary prevention of harassment,
processing grief, organizational skills, bullying, transitional
preparation, etc. Finally, I will be involved in career assessments,
where I will work with upper school students to help them examine
their career needs and interests using career inventories. In
addition to my placement at Park, I also intern at John Pound
Elementary in the Lockport City School District once a week. There, I
conduct initial and re-evaluations, attend CSE meetings,
develop/review IEPs and 504 plans, and spend time in general and
special education classrooms interacting with students and observing
both teachers and students.
Loni Coleman:
I am currently
fulfilling my internship year at School #22 within the Rochester City
School District. I am working closely with the School Psychologist,
Erminie Izzo, as well as the two social workers there and so far I
really like my placement. I will be doing many things this year,
including completing comprehensive assessments, individual and group
counseling, FBAs and BIPs, and working as part of the crisis response
team, to name a few. I've already been doing a lot at School #22 and
am told that things will only get busier, so I'm really looking
forward to the rest of the year.
Jennifer Leone:
I am currently doing my
internship at Wayland-Cohocton. It is a K-12 placement and I love it
so far! The placement allows me to take on various roles and to learn
from a variety of experiences. Up until now, I have been doing a lot
testing at the high school for re-evaluations. I am also
co-facilitating a high school group with a counselor, individual
counseling with 3 middle school students, and consultations with
various teachers and related-service professionals. At the elementary
level I have been actively involved in DIBELS data collection as well
as ongoing progress monitoring for some students. I am also providing
a direct reading intervention for a 1st grade student, and starting
up an FBA/BIP for a 7th grade student, with still more to come!
Catherine Lesio:
I'm doing my
internshipin theEast Irondequoit Central School District. I currently
work three days per week at Eastridge Senior High School, one day per
week at Ivan Green Primary School, and one day per week at Durand
Eastman Intermediate School. So far, I have had the opportunity to do
psychoeducational evaluations for students at a local private school
andre-evaluations for students here in East Irondequoit. I have also
had the opportunity to do a short lesson with a second grade class,
start counseling four students at the intermediate level, and
facilitate a social skills/friendship group with a student with
autism and some of her classmates. I look forward to more
experiences here at East Irondequoit - especially participating in
the IST process and promoting the School Psychologist as a member of
the schools' mental health teams.

counseling, assessment, and consultation with parents and teachers. I

Erin Wright:
I am in Geneseo, NY at
the Geneseo Central School. It's a K-12 building with one School
Psychologist... there are a little under 1,000 students enrolled
here. My main role involves testing, report writing, behavior plans,
and observations. We also attend TONS of meetings. I will be involved
with individual and group counseling, but here in the district that
is done by our 4 school counselors and our social worker, not the
school psychologist.
Adrienne Zonneville
I am doing my internship with the
Ithaca City School District. My time is primarily divided up between
two elementary schools. So far I have been really busy with
individual and group counseling, consultations, and academic and
behavioral evaluations. I am currently applying for a grant to
purchase AIMSWeb and am working on benchmarking the third grade
classes. I've also been really busy attending CSE, IST, and mental
health meetings. It has been a great experience so far!
