NYASP
The New York Association of School Psychologists (NYASP) will hold its annual conference November 13th – 15th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester, NY. The theme is "Constant Change: Seizing the Opportunities." Dr. Suzanne Graney, Assistant Professor in RIT’s School Psychology Program, is the current Chair of the Conference Planning Committee. She is responsible for conducting monthly meetings involving the 16 members of the planning committee in order to prepare for the 2008 conference, invite presenters, and request sponsorship from local agencies.
On Friday, November 14th, a student strand will be held. These workshops are directly oriented for graduate students in the field of school psychology and cover a variety of topics including; writing a successful resume, applying and interviewing for jobs, and taking the PRAXIS exam. During the conference a charity raffle will be held with proceeds donated to Camp DayDreams, a summer camp focused on empowering Rochester’s urban youth, as well as The Center for Youth in Rochester, NY.
Highlight speakers for the conference include; Mark Shinn, who is presenting on Response to Intervention (RtI) at the secondary level, Aureen Pinto – Wagner, who is presenting on Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD), Lindsay Schenkel, an RIT psychology professor addressing Bipolar Disorders in youth, Randy Kamphaus, who is discussing the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC – II), and Bruce Goldstein who will discuss legal and ethical issues in the field of school psychology.
