Students in Dr. Merydith’s research group have focused their thesis on personality assessment with the 16PF, self directed research, and transition planning for adolescents with disabilities, as well as the assessment of bipolar disorder. They are currently looking at mental health issues associated with bullying and the validity of screening instead of identification for adolescents subject to substance abuse.
Dr. Lukomski’s research group is eclectic. There are many branches of research that students are doing. Progress monitoring of mental health counseling in the schools is one topic. Another includes the assessment of the behavior indicators of executive functioning. Additionally topics currently being researched include journal writing and positive psychology outcomes, as well as looking at the coping skills of the emerging adult.
Students in Dr. Graney’s research group are designing various projects related to reading assessment. They are working on analyzing a large database of reading assessments given to all students K-3 in the four Reading First schools in Rochester City School District. They’re trying to figure out how assessments developed out of separate fields (i.e. DIBELS and DRA) might compliment each other so teachers can be clear how to use the information they are asked to collect.
The students in Dr. Pandolfi’s third-year research group conduct research on diverse topics.
The second year students are conducting research on matters affecting children with autism spectrum disorders. Topics include the psychometric characteristics of autism diagnostic screening instruments, educational issues in transitioning from high school to college, perceptions of current educational practices, and the effect of technical vs. non-technical jargon on stakeholder acceptance and perceptions of effectiveness of applied behavior analytic interventions.
