The Department of Sociology and Anthropology announces an exciting new degree program in Sociology and Anthropology. The new degree program has four tracks that include Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology and Urban Studies.
Today’s global society requires students to develop competency in understanding and appreciating social and cultural complexity and diversity. Critical issues examined in the degree include the economy, politics, society, gender, ethnicity, and culture. Through exposure to a wide range of theoretical perspectives and research skills, as well as an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum, students in the Sociology and Anthropology degree are provided with the strong foundation necessary to pursue a wide range of career options both in the United States and abroad.
RIT’s program is unique in a number of important ways:
- Interdisciplinary program featuring both sociology and anthropology — Students benefit from examining common scholarly roots and creative differences between the two disciplines, gaining a synergistic set of perspectives and skills.
- Hands-on learning — Students are encouraged to choose cooperative education opportunities by working in a company or interning with agencies that help to shape individual career objectives.
- International experience — Students can participate in an individually selected international experience, ranging from domestic work with international agencies, to study abroad programs, to participation in an archaelogical or ethnographic field school.
- Research Opportunities — Students have the opportunity to participate in cultural and social research studies alongside a faculty member, or create a study of their own.
- Double Majors — The degree program's flexibility affords numerous opportunities for double majors, both within and outside the College of Liberal Arts.
