1001-559-01   Introduction to Developmental Disabilities

This advanced neuroscience course will include lecture, literature review and student presentations focused on the human developmental disabilities: Down Syndrome; Cerebral Palsy; Mental Retardation; Autism Spectrum; Fragile-X; Phenylketonuria; Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and other related conditions. These will be examined at several levels—including cell & molecular biology; developmental bio; systems neuroscience & behavior.

Instructor: Elizabeth Perry

This course will combine lecture, literature review and small group discussions/presentations to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of endocrinology.  Topics covered will include: digestion & metabolism; growth & aging; arousal/mood; sexual dimorphism & reproduction; and neuroendocrinology. Discussion of relevant human diseases/disorders will be used to illustrate related biochemical/anatomical pathways and mechanisms.
